Our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre draws from two of the oldest, most historic and shyest-bearing vineyard blocks. These blocks perpetually produce fruit that is of stunning concentration, resulting from sensitive farming practices, the singular Oakley terroir, and the unique cooling band of air that flows inland from the Sacramento Delta.
The age of the vines, limited rainfall and low nutrient sandy soil, restrict yields to only 2 to 3 tons per acre. These grapes hold characteristics of dark, dusty berry fruit that makes our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre so lustrous. Individual lots of grapes were harvested separately based on ripeness and balance of acidity. Grapes undergo total destemming and a very gentle crushing to ensure a large proportion of whole berries in the must. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks. An ideal temperature is maintained to aid in the extraction of flavor and color. The wine is pressed off the skins at dryness, before being racked in dark toasted American oak, where it is gently aged for 12 months.
