Cline’s J. Poppe vineyard is located in the Carneros region of Sonoma and is in close proximity to the San Pablo Bay. The bay acts as a sink, absorbing heat on warm days and releasing it on cold ones, keeping the surrounding regions cool. These are ideal growing conditions for Merlot. Grapes are handpicked, then destemmed and pumped into a fermenter. Indigenous yeast coax fermentation. Temperature is capped at 85ºF to balance fruit extraction and retention. Wine is pressed and completes malolactic fermentation before laying down 35% new French oak for 12 months to complete aging before bottling
